Black Walnut (city tree removal salvage)

As with “Cold” and “Drought”, this piece is part of a Perception series which attempts to shed light on the positive sides of adverse conditions, or positive responses to situations which typically have negative connotations. At the core of this concept is natures instinct to return to the source, to consolidate, conserve, pull in, hold out and sustain. In this case in response to an outside threat, the pill bug has rolled into a tight sphere, using its long enduring evolutionary tactic to shield itself from harm. The beauty and simplicity of the form and function are exquisite (no counter attack, no quick get away necessary, just roll up and wait until the threat has passed).
